LOW-VOLTAGE INDUCTION MOTORS

Low-voltage motors are squirrel-cage motors with three-phase power supply ranging from 200 V to 690 V, covering a power spectrum from 0.06 kW to 1,250 kW.
They are made with several different fixed rotation speeds, and can optionally be fitted with continuous speed control via a frequency inverter and/or their speed can be reduced using different types of mechanical gearboxes.

How efficient are electric motors?

As part of the European Union’s efforts to reduce the environmental burden posed by industrial and domestic applications, specific requirements for the energy efficiency of electric motors have been introduced throughout the EU.
These requirements are defined by EU Directive EU 2009/125/EC and the technical standard IEC/EN 60034. Electric motors are currently available at four levels of efficiency:

    IE1 (standard or low efficiency)
Banned in the EU and in many non-EU countries.

    IE2 (high efficiency)
Banned in the EU. A motor used in conjunction with a frequency inverter is exempt.

    IE3 (premium efficiency)
Unrestricted in the EU and most countries around the world (some countries, however, require compliance with specific local standards, such as NEMA efficiency in NAFTA markets).

    IE4 (super premium efficiency)
Unrestricted in the EU and most countries around the world (some countries, however, require compliance with specific local standards, such as NEMA efficiency in NAFTA markets).

    Unclassified: low or standard efficiency
The EU allows the use of low-efficiency engines with no IE classification in certain cases, such as motors for very high or low temperatures, brake motors, multi-speed motors with a power output of over 375 kW, etc.

    SIMOTICS XP

    Explosion-proof and ignition-proof electric motors

Simotics XP motors are electric motors for use in an environment where there is a risk that combustible vapours and gases will explode or that flammable dust will be ignited.
Power output from 0.06 to 500 kW.

Includes versions for the following conditions:

    • 2G - Zone 1 (Gb)
A zone where explosive vapours and gases occasionally occur
    • 3G - Zone 2 (Gc)
A zone where explosive vapours and gases are not present in normal operation, but if any such occurrence does happen, it is rare and short-term
    • 2D - Zone 21 (Db)
A zone where a cloud of flammable dust (including conductive dust) occasionally occurs
    • 3D - Zone 22 (Dc)
A zone where flammable dust is not present in normal operation, but if any such occurrence does happen, it is rare and short-term

Versions for Zone 0 (permanent occurrence of explosive gases) and Zone 20 (permanent occurrence of flammable dust) are not available..

Optionally, we also offer special explosion-proof motor designs (e.g. versions for mining operations).

    General features:

    • if the power is supplied from an inverter, a special motor configuration and certified winding thermal protection are required
    • limited configuration options
      • limited modular superstructure variability compared to standard motors
      • limited opportunity for increased ambient temperatures
    • ATEX certification for each motor
